Coding Nightmares
Refactoring code has always been a nightmare. It's one of those things you swear you'll get to "when you have the time."
Recently, I started trying to fix a bug. That bug led me down a very deep rabbit hole. I uncovered a mound of technical debt, and I'm man enough to admit I put a good chunk of it there myself. I knew immediately that my normal workflow would be disrupted for a few days.
We had code that was supposed to refactor the way we handled background jobs, but it was never fully implemented. I had to figure out where we left off, and then what still needed to be done to complete it.
A few hours ago, I deployed it and finally turned the page on that effort.
Normally, something like this would just be patched up with even more technical debt - a band-aid on a bullet wound. But this time, I had an AI helping me unravel things that had been hidden deep inside the code for years.
That's the difference. Not replacing the developer — amplifying one.
